How Packaging Regulations Are Changing Paper Bag Production

Packaging regulations are reshaping the paper packaging industry. Explore how changing requirements are influencing paper bag production, automation, and equipment planning.

Packaging regulations are becoming an important factor in how companies choose materials and production methods. In Europe, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is pushing the industry toward more recyclable packaging and better control of packaging waste. Similar changes can also be seen in other markets.
This does not mean that paper will simply replace plastic. Instead, packaging manufacturers are facing a wider need for flexible and efficient production.
For paper bag manufacturers, this change involves more than the bag itself. Paper rope, handles, and handle attachment can all become part of the production process.
A typical workflow may start with kraft paper roll slitting, followed by paper rope production. The rope can then be used to make paper bag handles, while a handle pasting machine can attach finished handles to pre-made paper bags.
Automation is also becoming more relevant. As orders grow and product requirements become more varied, reducing repetitive manual operations can help manufacturers maintain more consistent production.
For equipment suppliers, this means looking beyond individual machines. A practical production setup should consider how different processes connect with each other and how easily the equipment can adapt to changing packaging requirements.
At Feiyang, we focus on equipment for paper-based packaging, including kraft paper roll slitting machines, paper rope machines, paper bag handle machines, and handle pasting machines.
As packaging continues to evolve, production equipment will need to evolve with it.
